When I began writing I Don’t Want a Werewolf Sleeping on My Sofa!, I wanted to create something playful, magical, and fun; a story that children (and adults) would love to read aloud.
But beneath the rhymes and magic lives a deeper message about kindness, inclusion, and the art of seeing beyond our differences.

The story begins with a knock at the door. A wizard and a werewolf arrive at an unsuspecting family’s home, asking for a place to stay, when a curious mix of chaos and kindness unfolds. The story explores how sometimes the most unexpected guests can become friends.

For me, the book is a way to begin meaningful conversations with children about empathy, belonging, judgment and anti-bullying. It fits naturally into PSHE topics and encourages both children and adults to think about what it means to make others feel safe, seen, and included.

How can kindness be modelled, practiced, and celebrated in everyday life?

Through storytime, Q&A, and creative discussion, we look at ideas like:

• How bias can form belief vs. How curiosity forms understanding
• The power of stories to build empathy
• Practical ways to celebrate difference at home and in school

These sessions open the door for honest, joyful conversations about inclusion, friendship, and what it means to truly welcome others in.

Through I Don’t Want a Werewolf Sleeping on My Sofa!, I hope to remind both children and adults that kindness isn’t just a nice idea but a continuous choice, one that can transform how we see the world and one another.

The book will launch this November, and I can’t wait to share it with classrooms, families, and workplaces as a joyful way to spark these important conversations.
