November is ‘Islamophobia Awareness Month’. Whenever I hear a Muslim, Jewish or Black person share their lived experience of hatred and racism, what always strikes me is how much more we have in common that should unite rather than divide us.

When it comes to any form of racism, what everyone really wants (especially in the workplace) is to feel a sense of belonging, to feel seen, heard, valued and included.

The recent rise in Islamophobia, anti-Jewish racism and general anti-immigration sentiment is hugely concerning.

Please take some time to consider how you can consciously show up for your colleagues with more empathy, compassion and understanding.

It does not matter if you have very different political views, know very little about the challenges different marginalised groups might face, or don’t have any solutions.

Just check in, be human and show that you care.
It does not cost you anything but can make a whole world of difference to your colleagues.

A couple of months ago, I contributed to a ‘No Space for Racism’ webinar where both professional experts and those who have experienced racism and seen ‘what works’ shared practical advice to help deal with these challenges.
