READING MATTERS
Enabling parents to instil in their children a genuine life-long love of books, addressing the needs of 3 different age groups:
Emergent Reading (0-4 year olds)
Advice on sharing books with young children and preparing them for learning to read at school. This seminar offers practical activities and techniques to develop early reading skills.
Learning to Read (4-6 year olds)
Explores how children learn to read and provides extensive guidance on do’s and don’ts when listening to your child read. It also covers tips for selecting books and recommended booklists.
Reading to Learn (7-11 year olds)
Guidance for parents to motivate their children to read and strategies for keeping committed readers hooked on books. It also covers discussing fiction so that parents can encourage children to critically evaluate texts and looks at using and understanding non-fiction texts, enabling children to develop good research skills.
NUMERACY MATTERS
Targeting parents of 5-11 year olds
Looking at the maths curriculum and how parents can provide effective support using practical activities to develop numeracy skills. It also covers how maths is taught in school as methods have changed considerably.
HOMEWORK MATTERS
Targeting parents of school aged children
Guidance and hints on establishing good routines so that children do their homework willingly and independently without parents having to nag or shout!
SCHOOL MATTERS
Targeting parents selecting nursery, primary or secondary schools for their children
Two separate seminars looking at the options available, factors to consider and key questions to ask when selecting a nursery, primary or secondary school for a child. Includes advice on the application procedure and how to prepare your child for the transition to each new stage.
EXAM MATTERS
Targeting parents of secondary school children
Understanding the role that parents can play in supporting their children through exams. This seminar offers guidance and practical tips on establishing a revision routine and key revision and exam techniques.

Tailor made seminars can be developed on any education related topic to suit the specific requirements of your employees.
Seminar duration
Each seminar lasts one-hour, including time for introductions and for participants to ask specific questions relating to their own children. As much time as necessary is available after that hour to ensure that all individual questions, issues and concerns have been addressed.
Who will teach me?
All of our trainers are experienced teachers:
- with specific expertise in teaching Literacy and Numeracy in primary schools and familiarity with all the latest research
- who are also parents and have personally experienced the challenges faced by parents/carers in motivating their children
- who appreciate how difficult it is for parents to balance work and home life
- who are able to offer advice on a whole range of issues relating to education and parenting
- who have gone through the ‘Educating Matters’ training programme.
