Happy New Year!

I hope you had an opportunity to enjoy your family, even though the timing of the new variant may have meant your holiday did not turn out as planned.  That was certainly the experience in our family with ongoing disappointment and cancelled plans.

A new year is typically a time for setting resolutions and goals for all aspects of your life.  Many of these are unrealistic, fall away within a few weeks or months and we may end up feeling even worse.

‘Parenting’ is seriously hard work and unpredictable.  There are constant twists and turns.  Even when things feel like they are getting easier, your child can reach a new crossroad or stage of development and new challenges arise.  Suddenly you discover that what you were doing doesn’t seem to be working any more.

Let’s be realistic.  Most parents will never have everything under control!  In fact we shouldn’t aim to.  The only thing we can control is ourselves.

My advice, based on almost 30 years experience of working with children and parents,  would be not to worry about setting new year parenting resolutions.

However, I do have 3 favourite tools that can transform your relationship with your child and the atmosphere in your home.

What is the one goal want for your family in 2022?
What is your greatest challenge?
